Kılavuzlar, para sporlarının şanlı kahramanları… Goagoseb yardımın sevincini paylaşıyor

As the Para-Athletics World Championships in Kobe, Japan are in full swing, guide runner Kelvin Riwaldo Goagoseb has shared his experiences. Visually-impaired sprinters compete with the help of guides who provide crucial information during races. Goagoseb, a guide for T11 Para-athlete Chris Kinda, recently achieved a World Champions time of 52.53 seconds in the 400m T11 event in Kobe, a remarkable accomplishment that exceeded their expectations.

In an interview, Goagoseb emphasized the significance of teamwork and humility in sports. He highlighted the important role of guide runners in assisting athletes to perform at their best. Despite the challenges faced by guide runners in the past, recognition and rewards have started to increase, particularly since the 2012 Paralympic Games. Freddy Mwiya, the chief administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission, expressed pride in the achievements of the athletes competing in the championships.

Namibia is being represented by 11 para-athletes and seven guides in the current championships, showcasing their talent and dedication on the global stage. Several notable performances have already taken place, such as Lahja Ishitile and guide Sem Shimanda setting an African record in the T11 100 meters heats. Johanna Benson and Johannes Nambala have also shown strength in their respective events, with Benson advancing to the finals and Nambala running a season’s best in the men’s 100m T13 race.

Despite some setbacks, including disqualification for athlete Lahja Ipinge, Namibia’s para-athletes continue to show resilience and determination. The championships are providing them with valuable experience and the opportunity to compete against top athletes from around the world. As they strive for further success in upcoming events, their efforts and achievements serve as a source of inspiration for aspiring para-athletes and sports enthusiasts alike. The Namibian team’s performance in Kobe reflects their commitment to excellence and sportsmanship, setting a positive example for future generations of athletes in the country.
